Feels Like Home
When we first moved to the neighbourhood in 2012, we weren’t sure what to expect. Now, we feel so rooted in this community, that we couldn’t imagine leaving. The Railpath is a wonderful example of re-purposing historic infrastructure to meet the needs of a changing and diversifying city. It is our cycling route into the downtown core, our jogging trail of choice, and ultimately, a fundamental part of what makes our neighbourhood feel like home.
Spaces like the Railpath provide us with an opportunity to engage with our community in a unique and creative way. The Railpath reminds users that we are connected to our city’s past, create safe and enjoyable opportunities for physical activity, and catalyze redevelopment opportunities within neighbourhoods.
“Tovi and I are big cyclists, so we primarily enjoy riding along the Railpath on our bikes. We usually catch the start of the Railpath at Dundas St West and Sterling Road and race each other home!”
Last year was our first year participating in the Railpath Run. We had such a great time, that we signed up as soon as we could for this year’s run! Our favourite memory of the event was walking to the start of the Railpath Run and observing the energy and buzz that had taken over our neighbourhood. Seeing everyone in their bright Railpath Run t-shirts was such a thrill. We both agree that the vibe was unlike any other race we have been to – so much liveliness and celebration!
Seeing people from all walks of life come together for a lighthearted afternoon and a great cause left us with newfound sense of pride for our community. We’re also big fans of The Stop Community Food Centre and are always looking for new ways to support their awesome food programs.
In an era where ‘community’ is more commonly defined through a digital rather than a geographical connection, events like the Railpath Run bring people together to celebrate their shared physical space. We hope events like the Railpath Run continue to build relationships among neighbours.
“We look forward to meeting everyone in September!”
Join runners (and Railpath enthusiasts) like Rachel and Tovi for the Annual Railpath Run.
